IBC conducts follow-up research into the achieved performance of many of our installations. The following provides a view into several retrofit applications, which offer very clear before and after studies. We seek to gather comparative data for new construction applications, and will add such information when available. Click on the images to view a larger size.

Residential — Detached

Location: West Vancouver

Building: 3,100 sq.ft., 2 levels

Installation: Space heat (radiant floor) plus domestic hot water. One VFC 15- 150 unit replaced a 130,000 Btuh cast iron, natural draft boiler & a 40,000 Btuh direct-fired domestic hot water tank.

Savings: 33% reduction in gas consumption.

Location: Vancouver

Building: 8,000 sq.ft., 4 levels.

Installation: Baseboard radiators. One VFC 15-150 unit plus 75 usg indirect domestic hot water tank replaced a 250,000 Btuh cast iron natural draft boiler plus a 70 usg indirect domestic hot water tank.

Savings: 35% reduction ingas consumption (this on a “High Temp” space heating load)

Location: Edmonton

Building: 3,200 sq.ft. plus 1,600 sq.ft. finished basement, 3 levels.

Installation: One VFC 15-150 unit and two zoned air handlers plus indirect domestic hot water tank replaced 2 mid-efficiency forced-air furnaces totaling 275,000 Btuh plus a direct-fired 40,000 Btuh domestic hot water tank.

Savings: 43% reduction in gas consumption.


 

Residential — Multi-Unit

Location: Vancouver

Building: 22 suites, 3 floors

Installation: Space heat (baseboards) plus domestic hot water tank. Two VFC 15-150 units (300 MBH) replaced a single 500 MBH natural draft boiler plus 250 MBH domestic hot water tank.

Savings: 43% reduction in gas consumption.

Building: 24 suites, 3 floors

Installation: Space heat (baseboards) plus domestic hot water. Two VFC 15-150 units replaced two 300 MBH cast iron boilers plus one 200 MBH commercial water heater.

Savings: 33% reduction in gas consumption.




1550 W15


Location: Vancouver

Building: 25 suites, 13 storeys

Installation: Baseboard (11 floors) and infloor radiant(2 floors). Five VFC 45-225 units replaced five 300k cast iron boilers. New capacity anticipates a future domestic hot water load.

Savings: 22% reduction in gas consumption.


Location: Castor, Alberta

Building: 4-plex, 7,000 sq.ft. main floor plus 4,000 sq.ft. lower.

Installation: Space heating (baseboards) and indirect domestic hot water tank. One VFC 15-150 unit replaced a 2-stage 450/900 MBH cast iron multi-temp unit.

Savings: 53% reduction in gas consumption.

Location: Saskatoon

Building: Two 54 suite buildings, 3 floors

Installation: Baseboard convectors plus domestic hot water tank and make-up air. In each building: Seven VFC 45-225 units replace two 1,000 MBH boilers, two 365 MBH direct fired water heaters and two 135 MBH direct-fired make-up.

Savings: 30% reduction in gas consumption.

Location: Saskatoon

Building: 9 apartment blocks each of 27 suites

Installation: Space heating (baseboards) plus domestic hot water tank. Each building retrofitted using three VFC 45-225 units, replacing varying equipment — typically one 720 MBH mid-efficiency steel boiler and a 365 MBH direct-fired water heater.

Savings: 30+% reduction in gas consumption across all buildings.

Building: 60,000 sq.ft. retail/offices, 2 levels.

Installation: Baseboards and booster coils in roof-top units. Five VFC 45-225 units replaced two 650 MBH copper-tube boilers.

Savings: 49% reduction in gas consumption.

Location: Richmond

Building: 148,000 sq.ft. warehouse/retail, single level with 24 ft. ceilings.

Installation: Distributed air handler loop, five VFC 45-225 units replaced a single functioning 2,000,000 Btuh steel boiler (the last remaining boiler of 5 originally installed units; the original total installed heating plant was 10 million Btuh).

Savings: 20% reduction in gas consumption.
